  2. Sherry E. Wood says:

Good man! Thankful for people with good heads on their shoulders and a strong spine to not be afraid to say what needs to be said!! Capitalism has its faults, but it’s a whole lot better than communism or socialism!!

  3. Richard Ingham says:

    great video
    thanks for sharing
Milton tells it like it is!

  4. Edward T Bolton Jr says:

    Palm 118:8-9
“It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence in man.

It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence in princes.”

  5. Phil Donahue looks confused and skeptical. This is the face of the Left mired in their intellectual fantasies about the unfairness of American Capitalism and the unequal outcomes that he can’t quite get his arms around. It’s unfair that the rich have too much and the poor too little. He can never accept the fallacy behind his cherished beliefs nourished by countless hours of commiserating with fellow travelers in their posh enclaves isolated from the poor downtrodden they claim to champion.

Indoctrination eradicates the ability to think objectively on the basis of a little common sense and a clear understanding of the foibles of human nature. The Capitalist system that Mr. Friedman defends so simply and elegantly is the only system, so far, that effectively takes those foibles into consideration and creates the elegant framework where individual liberty thrives within the rule of law but no other form of external intervention. Freedom to enjoy life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and as much wealth as luck, ability and hard work allow one to acquire.

Donahue himself, like all of his fellow American travelers, are beneficiaries of this system they find fault with. It’s the progressive, intellectual, revolutionary fantasy that they can make it better, fairer, more equitable by putting their redistributionist, anti-Capitalist agenda in place. Never mind that as Mr. Friedman points out, none such, under any political banner, has ever been shown to be demonstrably better. All aspire to create Nirvana by modifying human nature, calling it a path to prosperity; from each according to ability to each according to need. John Lennon’s “Imagine” incarnate. Beautiful thoughts eloquently put but utterly devoid of reality.

  6. Mitchina says:

And there IS a proven fact, as evidenced by the massive and critical poverty in third world countries, the socialism leads to tyranny where the elite being the controlling power of the land (and rich) as the expense of the over whelming majority of their citizenry to be dirt efin poor. Yet the progressives, communists, radical left socialists all want that, apparently, or they are so efin stupid they haven’t the intelligence to read or see history.

  7. Mary says:

This should be shown to all the “occupy” groups.

  8. ROSEY KIDD says:

An individual creates his or her wealth ,free markets and capatilism
I do not believe government creates anything except destruction
An individual is able to create that is one reason GOD gave the ability to think and create .

  9. Marine Sgt. says:

    Outstanding video, thank you.

  10. Mary S says:

That’s one of the best videos I’ve seen yet!!! But I would love to have known if he made any kind of impression on Donahue the Liberal.

  11. karen says:

Wow! We so desperately need more sane voices as this today to pull down the smooth socialists talking point today.

  12. Bara Rickman says:

THANK YOU MILTON FRIEDMAN! Amen and I say again, Amen!!

  13. F.L. McElroy says:

Great video, kind of nice having Phil sit there with his face hanging out with nothing he can say!

  14. Daniel Thomas says:

We cneed more men like Milton Friedman who can speak with such clarity about TRUTH as it really is ,,,not the wanton wishes of non-achivers,,,,,,clarity is beautiful!

  15. ITS A SAD DAY TO THINK THAT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC UNDERSTANDS NOT THE VALUE OF A TRUE REPUBLIC TO FUNCTION UNDER A FREE ENTERPRIZE CAPITALISTIC SOCIETY WITHOUT THE DOMINATION OF SPECIAL GREEDY INTERESTS TO CONTROL OUR GOVERNMENTAL LEDERSHIP. UNTIL THIS CORRUPTION IS IRRADICATED, OUR COUNTRY WILL BE IN DIRE TROUBLE, FOR AMERICA IS TOTALLY OUT OF BALANCE AND MR OBAMA IS DIGGING OUR GRAVE.

  16. gildedtumbril says:

Yes, Mr. Friedman shot him down really well. There is no free lunch, not even for illegal immigrants.

  17. Pat Brown says:

When did this excellent interview take place and where can we see the rest of it?

    • nixxnutz says:

This video is from Donahue’s show in 1979. For more video gems from Milton Friedman, go to YouTube and do a search. He died in 2006; boy, do we need someone like him now!

    • Dexter60 says:

      Pat Brown::
In case no one else responded to you . . . . all five parts are on YouTube as Milton Friedman on Donahue 1979

      Well worth the effort.

  18. Jim Delaney says:

Quintessential commonsense v ideological prattle. God, do I miss that man!

  19. Dave Newbry says:

We may have reached, or are getting very close to the point about which Jefferson warned us: half or more of the people have figured out they can vote themselves “free money” from the half of us who are willing to work for what we want to achieve. That is the end of democracy. Too bad people can’t or won’t learn from the lessons of history.

  20. JMcCARTHY says:

Phil didn’t hear a word Mr. Friedman said. Like all hard core Communists Phil’s eye’s just glassed over and all the facts in the world won’t change poor Phil’s Marxist mindset. Why? Because Phil thinks HE will be one of the ELITS of the new world order and have control over millions of the “Worker Class” Slaves. THAT’S what Marxists are REALLY about.

  21. Thanks for posting this Video. It is a perfect answer to those on OWS when they use the word Greed. It is funny the Libs will never understand they have too much Greed for POWER.

  22. Lawrence Bates says:

Donahue, like many entertainers, is a great hairdo without much going on inside it. If there was much activity up in there at all, he would have avoided putting himself in the position of having a shoot out about economics with Freidman when he had only two bullets to his name.

  23. A most uplifting video. Thank you.

  24. Palin Smith says:

There is one man alive who can take the most complicated issue and explain it clearly and simply so we all can understand. That man is Peter Schiff. Watch these videos. Connecticut might have sent this genius to represent it in the US Senate last year, but the greed of political power objected!!

  25. Joan Yanez says:

It’s a great video and I wish we could hear more people talking so sensibly about capitalism, but didn’t Mr. Friedman go to prison for insider trading? Beg pardon if that is an error, but if he did, it does undermine what he said to Phil Donohue.

  26. charlie says:

Like many “entertainers” they hold to the
liberal /leftist waylafter our system has made them millionaires

  27. gramjude says:

Amazing how when I was young that I looked up to this idiot who came on TV with his talk show.
This is what age does to one, growing, paying taxes, trying to understand the laws these idiots
we voted in to take care of us… and being led down the pathway by a socialist talk show host -
should I say I was indoctrinated by one of them…. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice
shame on me….. NO MORE – please visit these sites… this just might be the answer…
http://www.patriotsunion.org and http://www.veterandefenders.org. Wake up everyone, we need to
finally take the stand…. 11/11/2011 DC at the Washington Monument

  28. Charles says:

These liberal morons demonstrating in New York need to see Milton Friedman take Donahue apart . But on second though I dough they would understand Mr Friedman’s rational.

  29. Some Q’s for Mr. donahue:
    (1) Why didn’t communism work?
    (2) Where has it ever worked?
    (3) There is total equality of outcome (except for the political ruling class which takes care of itself quite nicely) in cuba and n. korea, no one has anything (even food)….is this your idea of “fair”?
    (4) Have you ever seen a satellite image of the Korean peninsula at night? Notice anything odd about it?

  30. The fact that I have never heard or seen before is ———-the people that are protesting the “rich” and all of us as a matter of fact are the ones who contribute to the rich incomes. Opray Winfrey has had a tv show for years and her org. advertises goods to pay her and all others and the needs that go into making the show. WE BUY the articles that pay for all that. If we would protest and BOYCOTT

  31. Carlos says:

The people that complain about capitalism, are the same that complain about getting old.
They don’t seem to understand, that it beats the alternative,

  32. THE REST OF THE STORY—-since I touched the wrong key I guess:
If we would BOYCOTT the advertisers, they would lose money and pay less to Opray and all the needs to put on the show. People protesting the rich are protesting the wrong entity.
Good’s costs are the culprit. The more we succumb to paying the costs, the more the companies will charge.
It’s the consumers fault that there are “the rich”! Stop buying, do with less, learn how to do otherwise–!
I remember when it cost $2 to go to a movie. Now we have TV but people still go to movies and pay upwards of $7.00!! to pay the stars millions more.
    PLEASE GOD GIVE US WISDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. Patrick says:

    Absolutely brilliant!

  34. Janice Allen says:

Amen, Mr LaCosta. Nothing to add but would read anything you’ve written.

  35. Nannett Soli says:

Donahue’s expression is one that looks as if he is trying to understand another language from another planet… lol He will never understand the accurate picture – scewed by a lifetime of progressive, communist indoctrination.
